UncleFester's Home Theater

Equipment:

Pioneer VSX-07TX Elite THX Certified Dolby Digital A/V Reciever

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/Pi...22,184,00.html

Pioneer DVL-700 Laserdisc DVD player

Toshiba SD4700 progressive scan DVD player
http://www.toshiba.com/tacp/dvd/current/SD4700.html

Mitsubishi WS-65905 HD-Upgradeable widescreen rear projection TV

Boston Acoustics
Micro90T speaker package

Dishnetwork Dish 500

Nintendo Gamecube

The obvious upgrade needed is a speaker system similar to what Tomdkat has! I would like to get a Tivo digital record system and upgrade the dish network to a HD system when more HD programming is available. Anamorphic DVD looks wonderful on my system.

CLOSE UP

If you look closely at the glare you can see a pitcher of beer from our keg-erator. Sorry Mr. Lucas, I like to have a cold one while I watch Star Wars!

Good luck finding those speakers for what Tomdkat paid - he really lucked out. By the way, very nice setup there UncleFester.

Thanks.

The Boston Acoustic do a pretty good job....the room is not that big. Initially I wanted something bigger and I was prepared to get it but the wife wanted the money for groceries or something like that.

When you say bigger, you mean the TV or the speakers ?? If you mean the speakers, there are boat loads to choose from. I've heard really good things about Energy's 5.1 system. They're small (good for the WAF) and sound really good. If you mean the TV, I thought 65" was about it - unless you move into the front projector realm.

Yeah, I REALLY did! Don't fret, UncleFester the Pioneers are GREAT speakers, but probably NOT audiphile caliber. I've read GREAT things about Energy and Paradigm speakers as well as the ever popular B&Ws. The Nautilus 802s are pretty sweet.....

Peace....

Check this out. I watched my first non-anamorphic movie with the toshiba dvd player. The movie is 'the Black Stalion'. The film was full of dirt specs and generally not the best condition. The Toshiba spits out the image in 480 progressive...I hit the zoom button on the toshiba dvd player and the movie looks pretty darn good.

I may have to revisit other movies in my collection!

Looks like something I can look forward upgrading to. Thanks for the advise. Do you have a link? I will try stolling the net.

Everytime I get depressed about the upgrades and money I put into this hobby, I go to the movie theaters to remind myself why I have a home theater.

Ahemmm....

The N802??
Do you have a special savings account set aside for speakers?
Coz you're going to need one if you want the N802's.
IIRC, it retails close to $10K :p

Plus, your receiver won't be able to drive them.
You'll need a good powerful power amp to drive those beasts.

They are good speakers, though

I do agree you need to upgrade your speakers system.
My suggestion - go to a good audiophile store near you, AND TAKE YOUR WIFE with you!
Take some dvds/cds she likes as well - and go auditioning different speakers.
There are some great speakers out there, and I'm sure this way your wife will take the audio quality into consideration, and not just the looks.

p.s. -
as someone who own Paradigm speakers, I have to say they are a very good buy

The wife likes to the hobby to some extent. She hates dealing with the rude people at theaters also.

Thanks for the advise....I will check out the Paradigm's when I have the money. The best place around here for home theater will be Hi-Fi Buys...a division of the Tweeter Company. I wish there was a larger store around here but what are you going to do?

Very Nice UncleFester!

I like the pictures of your screens. I was in the basement of the new house last night and kept imagining something like that in there. Someday maybe I just will have it.

When I finally get a Cinema at home, I can't wait to go back and revisit some of the titles!

Awesome UncleFester! Thanks for posting the pictures. Curious to see some more screeen shots!

Thats funny...I want a basement to put this stuff in! :p If you are in the market for a RPTV, Mitsubishi offers 1 year 0% financing as long as you pay it off by the end of the year. Then interest accrues. But that is how I got my TV.

I will get some more pics loaded soon!
