I love they way you have this set up!!!! Did you customize the spaces in the wall for your gear or did your place come like that already? Where did you get your a/v rack? This setup has really given me ideas when I move to my new place soon. I love looking at modest theater systems because, well, I can totally relate! Someday, we will all have hotdog systems! Jumping frogs!

yowza yowza yowza

Thank you all for the responses!...this board is a lot friendlier than a lot of others I've been reading...

Now I'll address some of your questions...

Quote:

Yeah...at first it was a pain...almost literally as far as our necks were concerned...but we eventaully adjusted...I think that it helps that the distance from the TV to the couch is around 12'...we can just kind of slouch in the sweet spot and everything works out well ...

...and the JBL does indeed rock!...I am really loving that thing...the last sub-sat system we had up was from a Philips HTIB...needless to say, there's no comparison between them and the JBL's.

The house was fitted with those spaces to begin with!...pretty forward thinking as far as tract home design goes don't you think?...the only bad thing was that there was no pass through hole from the bottom to the top...I soon fixed that with my trusty hole saw and some pvc!...hey, whatever works , right?

HaHa!...funny you should mention those...they're modular shoe racks that you can get from Home Depot !...it sounds cheesy when you say it out loud, but they totally serve their purpose (and they really don't look to shabby)!...I'll eventually end up builing a more "polished" version out of better stock (mayber MDF and threaded rods), but for right now they're perfect...and I think I paid a total of $48 for the three of them (around $18 per shoe rack)...again, whatever works, right?

Thanks again for the friendly welcome!

Punk Monkey, are the JBL small speakers as good as the big ones?.
So i can buy an emergency speaker system (i saw one at Best Buy for 279! )

Becuase i am really interested on JBL speakers, though i have heard the small ones courtesy of Bose and whoa!.

Oscar---

I personally like the JBL's...the N24's (the smaller bookshelf speakers) work really well for my purposes, especially since I have a sub...if you don't have a sub or are looking for more midbass extension then you might want to go with the larger N26's or N28's...the JBL N series really is one of the best values in sub-sat systems out there right now IMO...

As far as the Bose v. JBL thing, I think that the consensus here would be go with the JBL's...you'll get much more for your money...

Hope I helped...happy speaker hunting

Thanks, i might as well get any kind of JBL speakers, i also plan on buying a Yamaha receiver (DTS 6.1 ).

But i might as well buy the whole 5.1 package and buy an extra speaker.

Thanks!...like I stated in the subject line, the whole setup was put together on a pretty tight budget (tight as far as home theather is concerned)...

Sacto Punks Represent!!! :p

Well you can't go wrong with the NSP-1's IMO...they really are great speakers for around $450 (including the PB-10 sub!).

I've been looking at Yamaha in terms of reciever upgrades too...I've got a couple frinds with some older Yamaha recievers and they're really satisfied with them...but I'm gonna have to wait on that upgrade until I get sanctioning from the wife

OK...I'm bored off my a$$ at work so I thoguht I'd give a few details as to the evolution of the home theater set up...

I started with a 19" Magnavox display and an old Philips/Magnavox VCR (during the starving student years)...this was enhanced when my dad donated a Technics reciever (with Dolby Pro Logic! WooHoo!) and a couple of Technics floor standing speakers to me along with the Technics CD player (which is still in use)...a couple years after DVD was introduced I bought my first DVD player (the Philips single Disc that's also still used today)...this set up lasted for quite a while...ignorance is bliss they say ...

The first major upgrade to that system was a 27" vertically flat Sony Trinitron...after that came the Philips HTIB (an uninformed impulse buy ...but it satisfied a need at the time)...WOW...what an improvement!...a display I didn't have to use binoculars to see...actual discrete 5.1 sound!...again, I was content...

The I stumbled upon some Home Theater Forums...and started thumbing through periodicals like Sound & Vision and Audio Video Interiors...and that's when it bit me...the bug...I could not be happy until I upgraded...

...So I saved some tax return money and bought the 32" WEGA and a new VCR (the old one was on it's last legs)...then a few months ago, after reading some very convincing posts on many AV Forums I decided to plop down $450 for the NSP-1/PB-10 sub-sat system to replace the HTIB stock speakers (it made a HUGE difference)...which leads me to where I am today...happier, but still not completey satisfied (will I ever be? )...and I'm not even that bad compared to others I've seen/heard about!

This whole home theater obsession is like being on crack...although crack might be cheaper in the long run...

Cool upgrades man! Can't wait to see those pics....can ya throw us a bone and tell us where the 50" is going? Obviously it wont fit where the 32" TV was...so I'm guessing below?

Hi-Def is AWESOME! Good for you! (Football looks the best in my opinion)

Pioneer receiver! (Tom is happy )
Axiom speakers? (Snip' is very happy )

Congrats man!
