DVDFile Home Theater Award: Who's and WHY?

If you were able to have any of the many kick-butt HT's listed within, which one would you choose and most importantly..."why". Sorry, you can not pick your own :p . And while I know I too would like to pick more than one, you can't.....Ok, at most 3....and you need to say "why"! This is a must. Take a look before you pick folks...I need more views anyways! Seriously, there isn't any competition, but instead who's would you like to have if you didn't have yours, and why.

Me....I'd pick mine! Ahhh crap. Guess I gotta follow the rules.....OK, my vote (and it's a real toss up my friends) goes to......(sorry, I need more time to look again....but don't worry, I'll be back with my vote soon enough )

How about you take the downstairs and i take the upstairs. So Chromy gets my vote.

But Tish gets points for her great home made sub which looks mighty awesome.

Iguana man, Chromy, and leemik all get my vote.

I've got a soft spot for projectors! Reminds me of my son's favorite words when he was 3 years old (now 11)......

Mine! Mine! Mine!

Ya think I'm a wee bit jealous?

Don't be lazy!

Just a thought, but I truely hope everyone who votes looks beyond the first page - there are many worthy contenders ! That's why I haven't even voted yet...so take your time and make it count (and that's not to say those who already voted, didn't)

Edited: And whoever has their HT link listed in blue will have to do the final tabulations!

Edited (again!): Don't forget to explain why you voted for your choice...inquiring minds need to know

Going into this I thought picking the top 3 HT's would be enough...I was wrong. It's so obvious that only one HT is by far the best..yes, my vote goes to.....ME. :flush:

Ok, I have to be honest...I'm picking a tie for #1, and on top of that, I'm picking four HT's, and I'll do them in the order I personally prefer....(hey...I posted this thread, therefore I can break my own rules )

1) TIE FrankZ & Chromy; Why? - The "whole package".

2) MrKeeling; Why? - "Sound" - he's mastered it.

3) Dwette; Why? - Looks alone and amps out the a$$ !!

4) Roman; Why? - Barco CRT, Anthem amp - need I say more?

And I don't know if Lord_Loafer is still around, but kudos to Lords' REL Storm III sub. And Tom, you're speakers are cool, but there was too much competition. You want that money back now?

Ill through my vote Romans way.

There are individual components of other HTs that I would pick, but as a whole package I think his is the best.

I know this is not supposed to be done this way, but I couldn’t resist combining :p
(it was not done very thoroughly, so I am sure I missed some really good stuff)

Space/HT room: Frank Z – from what I can see from the pictures, it looks the most “sound friendly”
Speakers (front/centre surround): dwette (Dynaudio); leemik (Mirage) – last weekend I had a chance to listen to B&W 601S3 and little Mirages FRX3 in my house. I must say that B&W have not impressed me at all (sorry Iguana Man) and I was quite surprised with accuracy and detail of Mirages.
Sub (system): Chromy – what can you say abut TWO SVS’s with all the amplification and equalization!
DVD audio/video player: dwette (Arcam) – pity Arcam doesn’t make universal player (DVD-a/SACD)); Frank Z (Pioneer)
Processing/amplification: leemik (Meridian; Linn; Proceed; Parasound); Roman (EAD; Anthem; Hafler); Frank Z (Anthem)
Of course I’ll have to do some auditioning before I make a final decision.
Don’t know much about Video, but I guess: Roman’s Barco

Newer had a chance to hear Chromy’s Wharfdales, but if I have to choose one, it would be Chromy’s (but I would still put it in Frnak Z’s room). You can’t beat the COMPLETE side of it. Or just leave Frank’s room as is!(as my other first choice)

I knew I’d miss something so I HAVE to edit it a little

I think that Frank Z's is good... it's got the 'whole package' indeed! Maybe not the most impressive gear in any one area, but the entire system, and environment, is well balanced, polished, home theater (that and his site rocks ).

lol, I never posted in this thread because I didn't want to start anything up that needed to lay dormant, but I say we do a 2004 categorial Best Of, okay so it's just a geek version of patting ourselves on the back, but we nerds need that.

Who said I was gonna vote for myself, maybe I was gonna make a shrine to the Iguana Man's home theater, maybe I already have one built in my closet, with candles and all that stuff, you better watch your back. I'm a scary dude after I've had a six pack of Dr Peppers. Hopped up on the caffeine.

Lol, okay, then no more posting in this thread, bad bad bad.

It'll be even better soon as I'm ordering HT seats within the week and the sub by Xmas, plus new carpet early next year. Already replaced that ugly fan in my pics.

Well, I'll have to get back into the competition here.

I'm saving for a new Dynaudio Sub500. Maybe after my annual performance review.

There should be multiple catagories like the oscars

Best overall theater
best front projection theater
best bigscreen/TV (non front projection) theater
best audio set up
best DVD collection
best room design
best furniture (main seating)
worst theater

That's what I meant by catagorical awards. I don't think there's a BEST theater in my opinion, but each one has a decided edge in some way over the next.

Also it looks like we've officially dredged this thing up, so my apologies. The flogging may commence!

No one seems to want to vote against their own(as I would take my room). So, I'll start, I'd probably take piratehunters room, save for the speakers.

Actually, voting against your own was the whole point when this thread first got started, many people voted. And I specifically asked that you don't vote for your own as a way of complimenting others....I tried like hell to "word" the intro properly so as not to get people into a pissing match....know what I mean Pliss?

Anyways....it is an older thread. Perhaps a newer one should be made and this one moved to the archives?

Mods? Whatcha think? It has been awhile...and many newer HT's have been added......your call.

Iguana I didn't mean to imply that I would have voted for myself, honestly I think that's tacky to do so. I don't think my ego would suffer if I got a nomination for something, but nominate or vote for myself? no way, so don't think I would.

As for room I would switch with, in all honesty I'd say Dwette's room, and the reason is because it's a great collection of high end home theater equipment, but it looks inviting. It looks neat and orgaized but it also looks like you could grab a blanket and zone out and watch some great movies. Also I like the dvd rack right next to it. Also, props on the Arcam gear, although your DVD player probably costs more than my Denon 3805 and 2900 combined, so that's sick, but I love it. It's also very seemless.

However another vote would go for Chromy's home theater, because of all of the theaters here it's the most Theater like in how integrated but minimalist it ends up being with the lights off. Definately professional looking. A close second would be Plissken's setup, I dig the vast amounts of DVDs in there, it's not as stark and utilitarian as Chromy's room, but it's got a nice touch of film geek to it's layout that looks really relaxed. I get the feeling that some people arrange there rooms so really show off the gear, but Plissken's theater is purely just to bring some friends down and just chill.

Although if it were about beers and watching a sporting event I might just have to head over to Iguana Man's game room. I gotta give props to anyone who can actually make a dedicated game room.

Carefulllllllllll.......you may get branded as "Bad Humor Man #2".

Frank, and others who seem to think this thread is, well...has room to improve.

Would you guys be into a HT battelfield type thing whereby we select 10-or-20 HT's, throw them up with links, and then ask to narrow the field? Meaning narrow down the finalists in whatever category you think is needed? Kinda like the Classic Babes in the Off Topic forum? If not, I know when to let dead dogs be dead dogs...just wondering.

That's a good idea. I'd be willing to participate. I don't have the time to read thru all the HT threads, but I could handle 10-20 plus voting on categories.

In any case, I appreciate that folks here have taken the time to read my HT thread and make such nice comments about it. I'm sorry I've only reciprocated in kind for only a few others.

To be perfectly honest, I'm thrilled that anyone even noticed. I'm not out for an "attaboy," I'm just having a blast sharing what me and the family have been able to accomplish with the the help of all of our friends on the WWW. We couldn't have put ours together without the knowledge gained from others. I get my reward from seeing the responses here and on the faces of friends that visit our home.

If you get totally immersed in a movie in your HT, you've already won as well!!

If you get totally immersed in a movie in your HT, you've already won as well!!
On that note, I say this thread gets un-sticked and moved to the archives. Not a better ending could be asked for in my opinion.

I like the suggestion of the voting along the lines of the classic babes playoff, but the only worry is that would be more along the lines of just picking ONE home theater as the best. I don't know if I'd pick just one, but I like the idea of giving the props to best "areas" of home theater, like best speakers, tv, arrangement, HT furniture, etc. So I'm not sure how you'd hybridize those areas into one playoff. I'd also hate to judge it purely based on most expensive gear and what not.

I'm game for throwing my system into the mix, it just depends how it's judged if it's just for one overall "BEST SYSTEM" award.

lol, i'm so sorry for helping to dredge up this old post.

Hows about 4 catagories. Best audio system(consisting of speakers, and recievers), best rear projection systems, best front projection, and best overall room based on asthetics(as someone may have great video, but lousy audio vice versa, this would be based on the overall feel).

Plissken, I sorta like that idea. Like Audio, Video, Best Presentation, overall room, etc. Better then to just vote on one overall award. Just my 2 cents.
