And now, The Plissken Home Theater

After much crap, here is my home theater. First the system, and their specs:

The remote:
Pronto 2000 controls my entire system, including the lighting and soon the ceiling fan. http://www.pcplusltd.com/pcplus/prod...roductID=92817

Video:
Barco BG808 CRT projector
120in 16:9 screen

Driven by:
Home theater PC contents
Radeon 9800 MP-1 modded video card: http://www.wahoocomputers.com/cgi-bi...product=radeon
Holo3Dghraph capture card (for Tivo and video games) http://www.immersiveinc.com/products_holo3d.html
Soundblaster USB optical soundcard
Airboard IR keyboard

Tivo
Pioneer LD player
Panasonic XP-30 DVD player (use as a set top CD player these days)
Playstation 2 with component cables
Gamecube with component cables

Audio:
Denon 3805 reciever (has the option to convert all video to component video for just one connection to the H3D card)

Klipsch Reference Speakers:
Fronts: RF-7s
surrounds: RS-7s
center: RC-7
rear surrounds: Actually using the Pinnacle AC-650s at the moment, which used to be my front channels before I upgraded to Klipsch
Subwoofer: SVS PB2+ 900w sub

Wires:
I shopped around for the highest end wire within a reasonable budget:
30ft 5BNC to 5BNC cable to run from the projector to the HTPC
All the other video connections are Blue Jean cables, including component and S-video(makes Monster look like Wal-Mart cheapies)

There it is. Now the pics, keep in mind, we still need to get the right carpet, plus I'll be getting dedicated home theater seats soon, which will be tiered(stadium seeting). Plus we just got a black ceiling fan ordered which is remote controllable.

The equipment that makes the magic happen! Note their in-laid inside a closet(on a pricey vertical AV rack) to hide the wires and help them blend with the room.

And last but not least, my prized collection of DVDs. Currently at 1083, we had to special build this rack for them, and I'm again running out of space.

WELL IT'S ABOUT F-ING TIME!!

Dude, I'm sorry, but this HT sucks....why? Because I now am the envious fool I knew I would be for prodding your ass into showing it to us.

God I hate myself!

Yeah the brick is a real blessing. Not only is it awesome, but the house is so well insulated(largely thanks to the brick walls), I can watch LOTR at 3 AM without waking anyone up!

Oh yeah, forgot about these. I've never taken screenshots so they aren't great, but not bad either:

Thanks, HT is truely my obsession anymore. I really am not that much a fanatic about Plissken, but I happened to have an oversized poster of Escape From L.A in the closet, and a space just perfect on the wall. Any votes for best HT?

Nice, good choice in the Klipsch reference series, love 'em. I dig my RC25.

Yeah definately nice setup, i'd vote for it. However it makes me sad because i know i'd never get into that contest, *sobs*

At the moment it's a pulldown, and I'm not happy with it, as it has a few wrinkles thus, is not entirely flat. I'm going to cut the material out and try building a frame for with plywood backing. If I screw that up, it's another $500 for a decent perm wall screen. Screen material is matte white, thought about a screen material with a 1.3 or so gain, but everyone I've talked to says anything with a greater gain than matte white(1.1) creates major hotspotting with CRTs. But I'm fine with the material, the image is nice and bright.

Yes I love Klipsch speakers, some say they are too bright sounding and create fatigue, but to me it feels like being at a concert. Ever been within 15 rows of Metallica blasting away for 2 hours? Let me tell ya, it's pretty damn fatiging. However I don't get fatigued with them, they just sound amazing, I much prefer that 'in your face' feeling only horns can give. I had to get the 7s in the Reference series. How else could I sleep at night but to know that there is nothing better out there?

Cmon people... let's try and NOT mention prices here

My wife just read that over my shoulder and said... and I quote :
"Why did you buy an $1800 screen?!?"

damn fine pix you have there. I must say, I'm proud ( and jealous) to see that Barco up there. I am hoping to get an 808G or a 1208G in the near future ( SP ) It's good to see a good CRT projector in action...

I can't recommend the 808 enough, it's been excellent. Glad to see someone else going the CRT route.

Sorry those screenshots aren't clearer, never done that before, but it is much sharper in person. In a totally dark room, it has all the impact of a giant plasma TV, without the screendoor and crappy contrast of course.

I have a broken BG 800 at the moment, and was thinking of just upgrading, instead of fixing mine. I must say, I was more than impressed with mine, even with it's problems...

It looks like you've put together a mighty fine home theater for yourself and others to enjoy. It also looks like you have plenty of DVD's to keep you down there for a long long time.

Especially considering DVDs don't murder other dvds for a few lousy bucks or wage wars with other region dvds. So much better.

Seriously, I'd hate to have to organize that collection A-Z, yeesh.

Aye, I file them as I get them. But once that shelf fell down, I nearly died, it took me all day to get them back in order.

Do you ever find your self enjoying having to refile them? I have a couple hundred DVDs and one day we needed to measure the shelf for the bookshelf. Then my wife wanted to dust. So we took them all off and I got to realphabetize as well as dust them all. I actually enjoyed it.

It is not every day that you get to look at every disc in your collection. Most of them you don't look at that much either.
