Iguana Man's HT - Part II
Without further adieu…..part II of the humble Ig Man’s HT. First off, yes – I will get pics, secondly, the only changes from Part I are the PJ, screen, Sat receiver, DVD player and cables. Oh, the A/V stand too!
I figured that was enough to start a #2 thread, if not, mods….feel free to integrate, but don’t agitate! For now I’ll post links until those pics are available (damn, I gotta get me a digital camera ). Projector: Sanyo Z2 Impression: Well it’s LCD, it’s supposed to have screen door and guess what…it does! But, at my paltry viewing distance of 11’ – it doesn’t! At least to me it doesn’t, ok, given the right situation – yes – but ohhhh so little from about 3-4’……Time to enjoy it, not critique it is my new motto! I am watching the HD channel via DVI and a Samsung HD Sat receiver. I assure you, on the 92" screen, it looks unbelievable. Screen: 92' widescreen Dalite (16:9/High Contrast Cinema Vision) Impression: Yowza! 92” diagonal widescreen is frigging huge in my room! Never demoed other screens, based my decision on feedback from you folks. It apparently matches well with the PJ given moderate to tightly controlled ambient light situations. DVD Player: DENON 3910 Impression: Well, it's big, it's heavy and my wallet hates it, but damn if it don't look purty! Impression will be forthcoming since I need to brag first, then watch later! A/V stand: Nice Rack baby! Impression: It (and most from what I’ve seen) has crappy wire management, but looks far better than my quickly slapped together wood unit it replaced. It’s the only one I could find that accommodated my Pio-Elite VSX-24TX. That suckers deep (17” without considering the cables). Even still, she sits a bit forward, but again, this stand looks nice. *UPDATE 8/12/05* Six Pac Tube amps (monoblocs) for incorporating a separate music only system! I gotta take it one step at a time, so I got my mono blocs, and will soon (get a pre amp) and then a dedicated cd player. Cables/speaker wire....hmmmm, gotta think on that some more... -- The stuff above is new, the stuff below is hanging tough -- A/V Receiver: Pioneer Elite VSX-24TX - 90wpc 5.1 Speakers: B&W’s - Fronts/DM604S2’s. Center/C6. Surrounds/LM1’s. Sub: Velodyne SPL1200 ~~~ Here's a few pics now that I finally have a digital camera! ~~~ Went to Home Depot, had a couple slabs cut, placed them on brick, and ![]() Need to do some wiring...but here it is as you stumble in. ![]() The PJ (Sanyo Z2 with a re-used bracket from the old PJ) ![]() Batman sits atop the rack...Denon 3910 as well! ![]() SWEET SPOT! ![]() Last edited by Iguana Man : 08-28-2005 at 10:36 PM. |

Well I updated my DVD player from the Toshiba SD3960 to the brand spanking new.....get ready Titleist and Tomdkat.....are ya ready?
You sure now? You're both ready? Ok....here goes..... Denon DVD-3910 !!! Yes, she's unpacked, installed and later on gets to pleasure me in ways I hope are orgasmic. At least visually! ![]() I'd like to thank both of you (and others) who put up with my impatience, and all my 'n00b' questions. I had plenty more, but figured I'd be nice and just grab the player at the top of the Shoot Out list and end all the insanity! Thanks again guys. |

Have I really become the dirty Denon whore around these forums? Where Tomdkat is known for pioneer, and Titleist is known as that guy who's denon's lackey? Is that what you all think of me? Seriously, you all sicken me, you disgust me in your finger pointing and stereotypes.
Okay, who else can I pimp a Denon on to?! LOL Iguana, congrats, I kinda wished I would have sprung the extra 450 for the 5900, but I'm still very much happy with my 2900. But damn, glad after all those long threads I convinced you to do the right thing. Now in appreciation of all my advice, buy me a 2910 or 3910, share the love!

)Ok. I went and bought the damn thing...I was being impulsive but leaned towards the input and the top of the list on the 'shoot out'. Now for the bad news....I can't get a damn picture/menu outta the 3910! ARGGGHHHHH! Ok...calm...calm...calm...beer...calm....beer...calm.....(burp!) Ok...do I sound like Joe Pesci? Ok... Seriously...I think the PJ has an input issue...I got the DVI outta the sat and the component outta the Denon.....and no, I havent read the damn manual since the print is too damn small. Ahhh crap...lets (me) face it...I gotta hit this tomorrow.... ![]() Last edited by Iguana Man : 11-03-2004 at 10:59 PM. |

Hook it up to your JVC TV and see if it works properly there. Congrats on the player, I am very jealous. I bet SACD and DVD-A will sound unreal through that thing.
When you get your picture running, be sure to do a test of component versus DVI and tell us if you see a difference.

Well congrats, it's a damn good dvd player. I feel really bad because when I bought my 2900 I only had 700 bucks to work with, I just finished a freelance project and ended up with about 3,000$ for the bank, I could have sprung for the 3910, DAMNIT ALL TO HELL. Selling my 2900 now would make me feel dirty, but that 3910, delicious!

. The problem as I see it was the PJ needs to be powered on first after setting up all the inputs from the Sat and DVD player (input 1 & 2) correctly. I powered up the PJ first, powered up the DVD player and then the Sat receiver. I gotta tell you folks....this PJ is absolutely stunning thru DVI & a HD channel. Stunning. I plugged Nemo in last night thru the Denon...and it too looked fabulous. Snip...I wonder if a comparison between DVI and Component is gonna be fair though? I got the DVI thru Sat, and the Component thru the Denon. The DVI link looked REAL. I obviously got some more testing to do...and I promise I'll try to be as objective as possible...but right now, the DVI HD is a clear winner. And why not? It's far more lines of rez? - No? - . The funny thing is, the JVC in the living room playing the same HD channel as the HT room was delayed. There had to be at least a second delay between the two. Weird, or longer cable? Who knows, maybe the HD unit in the Living room is slower because it's a Tivo unit? Got me....but without a doubt there was a major delay between the two. Great Googily Moogily!!! I'm finally done on the upgrades and it's great! EDITED: Mods...can someone please give Titleist the title he deserves? "Dirty Denon whore" BWAW-HAW-HAW-HAW-HAW!!!! ![]() Last edited by Iguana Man : 11-05-2004 at 11:52 PM. |

DVI is the same amount of lines as component. I currently get my HD feed from Component cables, it does not really matter for me though because my TV is a CRT HDTV, there needs to be a digital to analog conversion somewhere, so it does not really matter, the question is, can you notice a difference between the upconverted 1080i (thru DVI) versus the 480p (thru Component) DVD image. I am curious on your thoughts.

lol, you only bought the 3910 because you couldn't get a Pioneer, nah it's okay, you cut me deep. ;-)
Well welcome to the club, btw, have you seen the Denon 5910? Oh lord that thing looks like it channels the power of the might zeus and injects it's power into your home theater....or it looks like a really big dvd player that's out to steal your money. EDIT: I wish I had something cool for my title, ACTOR?! Seriously, I don't need to act, it just comes naturally.

(which I manage to do in other ways )~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Had another listening session last night...I'm hearing things (no, not voices in my head) on some tracks I never heard before. Lots more depth, the high freqs don't have that 'sizzle' anymore and the midrange is really something to behold. Those are things I expected, but what I didn't expect was the amount of punch in the low end. Tube amps must have come a long way because I always thought they lacked the 'Solid State' like punch and that isn't a problem from what I've heard so far. |

A PreAmp is a WHOLE lot more than an EQ ( if that is what you were refering to. ) The PreAmp allows you to switch between sources, takes in the low level signals from the selected source, and sends out a different low level signal, based on the volume controll to the amplifire. It is basicly a volume controll and source selecter. It may or may not have tone and balance controll, depending on how much or how little you want out of your PreAmp. You can add in an EQ bewteen the PreAmp and the Amp if you so desire... Hope this helps... j
