Holy Shit Pirate, you are my hero!
Great setup. So what did you use to create your screen? been trying to decide whether to go DIY for my screen as well. I have a smaller room so I can only go 85" with my throw but I think I would rather go with a DIY screen and the room is completely light controlled.

It's made from Blackout material and some felt wrapped boards. The dimensions escape me. The theatre is also completely light controlled and the contrast is great.

That is one SPECTACULAR HT !!!! (still think you should move that center below the screen though ). I am so happy for you that I could cry.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one that digs wood paneling . I also love the label idea on the shelving for the DVD's. And that Supergirl poster kicks ass too (gotta get me one of those)!! And don't get me started on the Star Wars stuff!!!

Now I REALLY want to come over and watch a movie at your house!!

I tried the center below, but I really prefer it above. It just sounds more...er...theatre like.

There used to be wood panels in the HT as well, but the black works better for the look and sound.

Thanks for the kind words! Come over anytime!

I honestly do not remember what kind of wood I used, but they were 1x8 boards. Just make sure that the boards are sturdy and straight so they won’t warp. Go to http://www.da-lite.com for a program that helps with measurements on how long to make the boards.

I took each board and wrapped it, almost like a present ,with thick black felt. The felt absorbs the light from the PJ, so you won’t have glare. I then used L-brackets and screws to brace the boards together. I then stretched the BO material across the boards and stapled it down. The screen is tight across, so there are no waves, wrinkles or lines.

To be honest, I was kinda flying blind with this and I’m sure there are much better instructions out there. I’ve seen some people who build a frame inside the frame for more support. In retrospect, I should have done something like this, but so far so good. Eventually I’d like to move up to a Grayhawk or something like that.

I'll try and dig up some better instructions for you that might make for a better screen.

Very nice set up, really dig all the stuff you've got in there. Good to see another Freddy fan with a Robert Englund signed pic(he signed my glove, not the plastic toy, nice metal replica). Hopefully by the end of the year I'll have my theater room revised enough to post some fresh pics. Big plans this year.

Yeah, Englund was a super nice guy! It's hard to believe he killed teenagers back in the 80s.

I just took a $100,000 insurance policy out on everything! I've been meaning to do this for some time and now I'm covered.

I'm going to be rebuilding my screen this weekend with some reinforced back support. Does anyone know how to clean blackout material? It doesn’t look dirty, but I figured while it was down I could clean it.

Damn do you have some issues with cleaning.

If my Mom was alive I'd send her over, she would slap your ass into cleaning submission dude.

Seriously, try a vacumm with the little circular brush attachment but keep the air intake valve half open and go light while depressing it onto the fabric.

Capishe' ??

I'm actually a clean freak. The problem is that I have no control over dust. I have a wonderful new vacuum and I use it every week, but the dust still kicks my ass. The screen looks as clean as when I got it, but since I was taking it down I thought I'd give it a good scrubbing.

Yeah...I'm milking that aren't I?

Hey man....I'll be honest. I don't even go into my HT room for 3-4 days at a time, and guess what? Frigging glass on my Audio rack has a nice little coating of dust. Dude..I hear ya. I too am a clean freak but that crap surfaces no matter what.

Hey...it's part of life I guess...

It’s ridiculous! I dust every few days. I might well just start making little dust castles. And since my theatre it all black, it can get very noticeable if I don’t keep it up.
