Nothing still pictured in HD action (will try soon i swear) But new pics of setup and HD collection (again please ignore 1993 JP era paint job that i am too lazy move shit around for giving room a new look)

Well its been a while but i have an update to report on my system. After about 5 years of use i replaced my Marantz SR-4300 receiver. With all them Blu-ray and D-DVDs and their fancy sound formats i took the plunge and upgraded my receiver to the new ONKYO 605 Plus with this thing i could clean up some of them nasty cables/wires. . . remember just some.

Its nice you have it out in the open, because mine gets hot as hell. I am in the habit of just leaving the door of my entertainment center open.

... I've also got a Marantz SR-4300 and am thinking about moving to an Onkyo 605 or 705, so I'm just wondering what you thought about how your Onkyo sounds vs. the Marantz? Thanks Kerry |

I like the Onkyo 605 a lot. I always thought having PLII for my shows were good but the PLIIx with the player is awesome. I find the seperation for the channels a little better too, but that could be the extra speaker and High Def movie tracks helping. The thing is pretty much a breeze to setup with the auto setup mic for the speakers (although i like the centre channel a bit louder then what it sets it at) Now the sound volume is still something i'm getting use too. The Marantz was from -74 to +25. Feels weird only having the sound volume start at 0 and go upwards to i think 90 max. Still nothing to worry about and still works great with my small bedroom setup. I guess the only thing i wish i could of done (had money not been an issue) were to get the 705 to allow my PCM tracks to matrix into the the surround back channels (which the 605 can't do) Still the best of tracks won't really leave you upset when they are done right (Cars Blu-ray perfect example) Also my old Marantz receiver could really warm up my small bedroom setup pretty fast, and was worried about the reports i was reading about the Onkyo systems getting really hot. Well from the few months i have had it I find that it actully runs cooler then the old receiver (which is great for family movie viewings)
Oh and an update to my Setup. In January i upgraded my Front L&R to some new ENERGY C-300 tower speakers (which are awesome sound wise) and added a Velodyne DSP-12 subwoofer. Will try to get pics for them up soon.
