Steve's Theater

Here is the theater that I have built over the last few years. I bought all the sound stuff back in high school and recently bought the projector. Right now I am a sophomore in college and so all this is in my dorm room. Let me know what you guys think.

Amp/Receiver: Panasonic SA-HE100 $250

100 Watts x 6
DTS ES
Dolby Digital ES
Pro Logic II

more details here

DVD Player: Panasonic DVD-F85 $150

more details here

Sub: JBL Northridge E Series $250
12"
250W
Front-Firing

more details here

Speakers: Mirage All 5 $850

Fronts: Frx-5 series
40Hz-22kHz
3/4" pure metal hybrid tweeter
6 1/2" Injection Molded Polypropylen Cone Woofer
90 dB Efficiency
15-150 Watts RMS per channel

more details here

Center: Omnisat
70Hz-20kHz
1" Pure Titanium Hybrid Tweeter
4" Polypropylene Titanium Deposit Hybrid Cone Woofer
89 dB Efficiency
10-150 Watts RMS per channel

more details here

Surrounds (L,R): Omnisat Micro
90Hz-20kHz
1" Pure Titanium Hybrid Tweeter
3" Polypropylene Titanium Deposit Hybrid Cone Woofer
88 dB Efficiency
100 Watts RMS per channel

more details here

For the Surround Back Channel (6.1), I am using a $50 pair of Yamaha computer speakers that I had laying around. Since not much sound comes through this channel, the quality difference isn't really noticible.

I also have a 27" Magnavox 4:3 CRT hooked up for playing movies when I need the lights on to do homework or when watching broadcast TV. It also helps to save hours on the projector bulb when playing some video games.

Projector: Toshiba TDP-S26 $500

SVGA Native Resolution 600x800
Displays HD signals up to 1080i and 720p
1800 ANSI Lumens
2000:1 contrast ratio

The screen I made my self out of black-out curtain material stretched over a frame made out of 1"x4"s. It took about $50 and 4 hours to make and hang. I compared the material to HD screen material at a local high-end Home Theater store and it looks exactly the same. The diagnal size is 93" and is 16:9 format.

The front L and R speakers are bi-wiered with 12 gauge oxygen free Phoenix Gold and the center and surrounds are wired with 12 gauge Monster XP. The Sub cable and optical sound cable are Monster THX certified.

For power, I am using a Monster Home Theater PowerCenter $100

In addition, I have just reached the 500 mark for DVDs.

Here's a couple pictures:
(the one with the projector on looks kinda crapy cuz its hard to take)

Welcome to The File! It looks like you have a nice setup there. Got any pics? We like pics!

EDIT: Ah there are the pics! Very nice.

Is that a mini-fridge back there?

Yeah, its a mini fridge, we used to have two but our other roommate moved out. Its worth it though cuz now there are only two of us in this (relatively) huge room.

Wow man....that's one sweet looking dorm room! And for a college sophmore, it looks better than most of my apartments growing up.

Lucky bum!

Maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me, but it appears your pj is aiming down? From what I can see, I would think given the height of the screen from the ceiling you could have the pj level, or even higher up?

Regardless....it's very impressive. Kudo's to you and your roomie!

yeah, the pj is pointed pretty far down, which seems odd to me but thats how it projects. They made it so that the bottom of the screen is in line with the center of the lense. Since this is the first pj I have set up, I just thought this was normal.

Great gear!

You really need to get some Star Wars posters up on the walls, though. *Ahem*

By the way, who is "Steve"?

Peace...

Holy crap that's a huge dorm. I'm guessing you live alone?

Awesome setup though!
