SidcupMartin's New HT!

So, finally the TV turned up today!

I got it hooked up and made a few quick adjustments and it's looking amazing. I'm not seeing any of the reported problems that I was reading about on other more technically-minded sites which is a relief.

TV:

Sony 50" SXRD Rear Projection - I never thought I'd see the day when I went for a rear-projection set but I have no regrets at all. It was a close thing between this and one of the new Samsung DLP's but this set looked best to my eyes.

DVD PLAYER:

Oppo 971H - I needed a new player to compliment the HDMI input on the TV and from what I read this baby was the one to go for. No complaints.

RECEIVER:

Kenwood HTB-205 - Now the only thing letting the side down! This has been with me for years and will be upgraded within the year.

New pics below!

Very nice pics there. Notice you have the same HD box that i do.

Now you just need a nice new XBOX360 to play with in beautiful 720p and with fellow Filers online.

Congrats once again and enjoy some movies

Nice !!!

It's a fantastic feeling isn't it?

Hey, just wondering....from the looks of it, it appears your TV has two speakers on each side. Can you run them instead of the two front Kenwoods in 5.1 mode? Probably not, but I was wondering how the TV speakers compare to the Kenwoods.

Congrats man!

(ps...Mr. Anal -me- says you need to improve upon your dusting techniques )

Very nice! My first Receiver was a Kenwood and it lasted for a long time as well.

I just knew someone was gonna pick up on that

I only had a couple of hours with it last night so I haven't had a chance to get into that kind of thing but from what I've read so far I don't think it's possible.

Well if its like my Hitachi tv it allows you to use your tv speakers as your center channel instead of the seperate speaker. I'm stuck with my old RCA HTiB and the tv speakers are a hell of a lot better then the RCA ones. For tv speakers they produce a nice clear, 3D and strong bass sound.

So if you have that option on this tv i would suggest trying it out Sid

From those photos the picture quality looks great!

Was the NBA All Star game broadcast in HD in the US?

You haven't seen behind the thing - it's like spaghetti junction back there.

I had a flick through the manual (finally) and don't see that kind of option. I might be missing it but it don't look like it.

You have the DVD player mentioned here: HTPC no more

Are you pleased with its performance? Have you compared it to an older player to see the difference? I've got a DVI input on my PJ and I'm looking to upgrade to get a more "popping" picture.

Also, do you know if it comes in black?

I'm using it now through DVI and it looks amazing. Layer changes are now a thing of the past and it's played everything I've thrown at it. Coupled with the TV it all looks amazing.

and nope, it doesn't come in black

That TV does look amazing. My dad is considering getting a TV and I just might have to look into this one as a suggestion.

Nice!

We're waiting for HD TV broadcasts to launch in the UK, shouldn't be long now (http://www.sky.com/hd). It's going to be expensive to subscribe to at first though, including the price of the HD box.

I took some pics for the folks back home so I thought I'd post them here. Over the weeks it has started to get the green haze that's been posted about a lot but it disappears within minutes. I'm still happy
