THE HARDWARE
The Speakers and Other Hardware and Toys 1 Center POLK CS245i Speaker 2 Front POLK RT800i Tower Speakers (with Star Wars Episode I Lego Battle Droid on top) 2 Oscillating, air purifier tower fans 4 Rear POLK FX300i Speakers (yes I do only have a 5.1 system now and two of the rear Polks are just for show, but when I upgrade to a 7.1 receiver, I'll be ready with the 2 extra rears) 1 Velodyne CT120 Powered Sub (It is quite the booty shaker. Powerful, very tight bass.) 1 Powermid 'Remote Bouncer' (the little pyramid shaped dude) This is sitting right beside my center speaker and receives any IR signal from a remote that is pointed at my screen and sends it back to a receiver on the rack. Also sitting up at the front is a LOTR popcorn bucket. The sign says it all.
If I ever have any pocket change larger than a quarter while watching a movie, I'll flip a Loonie or Twonie (Canadian $1 / $2 coins) into the bucket to offset the eventual and wallet-shattering cost of bulb replacement. |

The Screen
The screen is a DaLite 2.5 Gain, Light Contrast, Glass Beaded screen. It is approximately 45X80 when measured from the inside of the border. The clarity is fantastic and the brightness gain is eye popping, but I am not totally happy with the screen. Due to the glass beads being an uneven surface there is just a teeny degradation of any image projected onto the screen. I seem to be the only one that notices it though. DaLite has a 2.8 gain screen that does not use the glass-beaded technology that I am hoping to upgrade to within a year. However it is twice the cost of the glass screen... anyone in the market for a 45X80 piece of screen material ? Seriously, I am looking to sell I even have samples of the material that I can send you.It is very hard to get a good picture of it as the reflectivity of the screen always blasts back the flash of the camera, but I happened to get a cool pic of it... The camera always manages to pic up the white wall between the edge of the border and the black curtain, even though this is not visible to the eye. Last edited by esc : 02-21-2007 at 06:45 AM. |

Here's another one of my couch and the X-Men table that I made ... well, I actually only made the plastic overlay with the X logo painted onto it. The table came from my parents house and I painted it black

The Screen In Action
These are actual projected images taken with a Sony 5.1 Megapixel Camera. As I said before, I am very disapointed with how the final quality of the pics turned out, but the real thing is very nice. HD DVD looks amazing. These are all standard DVDs. Last edited by esc : 02-20-2007 at 04:47 PM. |

War Of The Worlds
there is a huge ammount of detail to the tree branches and on the ship that you cannot see in this pic The ship is covered in triangular shaped sections that rim the top 1/3 of the shipLast edited by esc : 02-20-2007 at 04:50 PM. |

I just hit another milestone in my theater last night. I just had to replace the filter in my projector for the first time! getting the back panel off was a pain with the unit up on the ceiling. Its a good thing that the projector came with a spare filter.
Its nice to see that the air filter was doing its job. The thing was filthy and there was not a hint of any dust inside the projector. Now I know that I need to replace the filter about once a year or ever 1000 bulb hours. Last edited by esc : 02-26-2007 at 08:10 PM. |

Here are a couple more pics.
I also updated the DVD rack pics earlier on in the thread. I used ArcSoft Panorama maker to put together a giant panoramic pic of the whole room. The pics aren't perfect as they were stitched together from 16 different pictures taken at different angles around the room, but if you rotate the image from right to left in your browser, it gives a good idea of what its like to stand in the middle of the room and spin around. The picture starts at the back-left of the theater at the rack and moves around the room back to the starting position. click the links below to see the giant 10MB 13900X1953 pic or the slightly friendlier, resized for 1024X768 displays 2MB 5476X768 version Thanks to PirateHunter for hosting the pics. 13900X1953 10MB 5476X768 2MB
