*****Update*****

They caught their mistake. I went back in and paid the ballance. No big deal, as they made me a fairly good deal to begin with.

Sounds like a nice TV, and congrats on the new home. No HDMI though? May I ask why?

I forwent HDMI so I could have RGB-H/V for my HTPC ( details coming soon ) It does have a DVI-HDCP input, so I should still be able to take advantage of the new players and such.

That's a CRT? And they make a 65" one?

Am I reading that right?

Taxi. He mixed up the #'s in the link. It's a 55513, me thinks.

And it's 10" smaller than your assumption. Me thinks.

I assumed you were having the same problem as me. hehehe...never mind.

Yes, It's a CRT. I am not blown away with the digital tech so far, so I am sticking with what I like the look of. It may interest you to know, they made a 73" as well The link is on the same page that you linked to.

May I ask what 'I like the look of' means? I'm going to make another assumption (see my edit above) and say 'film like'? I hope this assumption is more on target than my last.

Just curious.

Iggy

when I watch a DLP, it looks like i am watching it on shifting sand. Kind of annoying realy. The shimmer is what bothers me. I guess CRT is IMHO more film like When I get my Theater room built ( Someday ) I plan on using at least a 9" CRT projector. I hope to use two

easy. he will shave the inside edge of each one and line them up right next to eachother. than he will buy two dvd players and two of every dvd. He will than start the movies at exactly the same time and zoom in each TV, one to the left and one to the right. And there you have it.

It's called Stacking. The two projectors will hang next to each other, and the two will be converged on each other. The image is split between the two of them, in effect doubling the light output of the projectors. I have most of the components necessary to do the install. I now need the two projectors

It's all good Taxi. Remember, Chromys first Mits was a 65" that he had to send back because it was way too big for the room upstairs? I remember him talking about it because the sales person that sold it to him told him it didn't come apart. That was when he got the 46" ( I think ) that he has now...

sort of

Yeah, but Chromy's Mits wasn't a "CRT" HDTV. It was an RPTV.

Judging from the dimentions found in one of the PDF files on their website, I think this is an RPTV as well. (The back is angled like an RPTV.)

It may use CRT projectors, but I wouldn't call that a CRT HDTV, I would call it a RPTV HDTV. (As apposed to my Sony Wega HDTV, which is a CRT TV.)

Clear as mud now?

I had a feeling you were gonna go that route and sweet jumping you know who.....you are going to be spending A LOT of time converging these units and every 6 months or so, going bonkers.

While I love the idea behind it, and I'm sure the results will be outstanding, it's just WAY too much fiddling and all for me.

Good luck dude...and damn if you don't rock for the want factor to do this.

Well, it IS a CRT, RPTV. Cathod Ray Tube Rear Projection TV. The CRT is the display Technology, and RPTV is the type.

Goes back to...it's a CRT RPHDTV, if you want to get REAL technical

Thanks for the lesson. Good luck and keep us updated on the progress. You must have a lot of patience to get 2 CRT's to project on the same spot.

I just noticed the subs in the list of gear and was gonna ask about it... I was just wondering how challenger had them set up... I was in a 5.2 room once with one of the subs connected to the centre channel and was considering the same sort of setup (I'm moving soon!). now I'm wondering how it would sound with one on the rear channels... oh, the possibilities!

In theory, if the sub is built well, you would only notice more low frequencies from the rear channels. IIRC, Frequences below 100hZ, you can not tell where they are coming from. So, as long as it does not conflict with your main sub, it could enhance your bass. What I want to do, is have a sub similar to mine for each pair of speakers in my system. If I can get the room I want, that means 5 subs I plan on a large room with a pair of speakers for each surround...totaling 8, so 4 subs in the back. I want to have the subs handle thelow frequencies and the speakers handle the mid and high frequencies. I doubt I will be able to find any more subs like the ones I have now, so, I will probably end up with the two I have for a while, till I get the subs for the rear.

My setup as it stands, is just an RCA splitter, from the sub out to the LFE input on my subs. It's 7.1 now, just split between two subs.
