Biglyle's NEW theater (new house, new theater)

Well after moving cross-country at the end of September I am finally settled in. It took me nearly 2 months but my theater is finally done.
The gear is as follows
PJ - Optoma H31
DVD - Panasonic S-97
Sat. Reciever - expressview 9200, dual tuner HD-PVR
Reciever - Yamaha RX-V1400
X-box
Speakers - Athena AS-B2's, AS-C1, AS-R1's

Let me know what you think

[IMG][/IMG]
102 inch DIY screen and speaker stands

DIY inwall rack, backs into cold storage, gear never gets hot

DIY dvd rack and soon to be wet bar

fireplace (soon to be gas) and exercise gear to keep me in shape

DIY sound panels

Some HD, looks a million times better in person

hope you like it, we do.

Awesome setup. Now all you need is a 360 for some HD gaming.

Looks damned good!

Are you planning on adopting HD DVD or Blu-Ray any time soon?

Peace...

13 feet, any closer and screen door effect becomes an issue with this PJ.

Thank you. The hardest part was putting in the drop ceiling, man are they a bitch to install. I have owned a commercial painting biz for almost 17 years, so I am good with tools thankfully. I really love doing stuff like this, the reward is definately worth the time and effort.
And yes, the sound kicks serious ass.

Yes, the ceiling looks great. I didn't realize you did that yourself. It makes the recessed lighting possible, which really looks smooth. I also like the sound panels you have installed. One question is where are the rear channel speakers? I didn't see them in the pictures you had there.

Beautiful HT setup!!

I did the whole room myself, with the only exception being the carpet install.

I have the rear speakers hooked up in an upstairs section of the house. I tried it with them, and without and found no differance in sound in this room, so I figured I could make better use of them in another part of the house. The side surrounds are bi-pole speakers and I honestly think they do a good enough job of sending sound in both directions. Also with no hint of discreet 7 channel sound on the horizon I figured why bother.

Wait...you have no rear speakers? How can there be no difference in sound with a 5.1 setup?

I use to have a 7.1 set-up, now it is down to 5.1

I notice no differance with the 2 speakers gone.

I am guessing you assumed I only had fronts LOL. That I fear would be noticable.

See the top RH corner of pic 5, surround speaker is peeking out.

I was starting to think the same as well. But I see the rear now. Phew! I was about to say that your theater was compromised without surround speakers.

First off....Whoa! Thumbs up dude! Fantastic looking setup.

Really nice man.

Now for my questions;

1) What kind of Sub you got?
2) Where exactly is the fireplace? Is it directly opposite the screen? I can't seem to place it given the pics.
3) Pic#4 shows a high-hat that seems to meld into the adjoining ceiling. Was that intentional?
4) Are your mains not toed in at all because of the sound asbsorbing panels?

Damn...she looks sweet so don't get me wrong, but I always ask questions like these!

Thanks
1 - its a Velodyne CHT-12
2 - the fireplace is on the same wall as the 4 sound panels in shot 5
3 - thats just the camera angle I took the pic at. It does look like it melds with the ceiling, but it really is about 8 inches lower and runs through the center of the room. It contain our main heating/cooling trunk from the furnace.
4 - the mains are toe'd in about an inch. I found this sounded the best in my testing. Again the camera doesnt show this very well.

the whole system is calibrated to 75db with test tones and a rat shack SPL meter. As for questions, ask away, I dont mind at all.

Your close LOL.

The door you see in the PIC leads to the laundry room, the door upstairs is pretty much under the bulkhead between the bowflex and the wetbar. When I walk downstairs I will have to choose between the exercise half and the bar half.
Its a good thing I keep a lot of gin on hand.

Very nice setup! Your theater room looks amazing! Once you get your Sanyo projector in place, it's going to be a mind blowing experience! Congrats!

50k on a car will do that to you...oh wait, I don' really know what that is like...

Theater looks awesome. Love how the space looks like its own room...long and narrow, makes for a isolated expereince; or so it seems. Now I say you wall up that opening to the right and you done

I may have to disagree...that section to the right (or left?) can have ambient light given a bright enough pj...I say don't close it off. Well, assuming the bar gets done and well...you know.

I assumed you meant wall up the opening (which is his future wet bar) to the right because of light spill. Actually I'm still confused as shit on this layout. In pic 5, on the right is a china cabinet. I assume that is also the wet bar area. If so, I say don't wall it off from the actual theater room.

I'm burnt too.

hmmm, that is where I was talking about, where the cabinet is. I assumed that continued into a hall that lead to other rooms which you would get light spill from. We need an overhead diagram.

I just realized I never posted when I canceled the order for the Z5. I am now glad I did. Looking forward to hooking up the HC720 when it gets here (hopefully this week) and giving it a go. I need to update the pics as I have made a few changes. I have a Tosh HD-A3, and a PS3 to add to the fray, along with the new PJ when it arrives.

Thanks for the kind words on everything. It took a lot of time and about twice as much money as my wife thinks
