Congrats! Someone I know just bought a somewhat similar TV
![]() I believe this model is still the color wheel. Any reason you went with that instead of getting the LED?

No, but that is a sweet TV. I sometimes wish I had gone with a larger screen, but 42" is satisfying me right now.

Funny how you use your underwear drawer to hold your center channel.

wider pic
![]() as you can see I've retired the sock drawer ![]() and better pic of the center speaker's home ![]() ![]() my next step is to drill a small hole in the back of the dresser to run the speaker's wire through but the battery for the drill is charging Arrested Development in HD on HDNET ![]() Last edited by George McFly : 08-04-2007 at 04:40 PM. |

Build it yourself...
If you must place the set on the dresser for now, which is okay, how about building a little raised platform for it that will sit on top of the dresser and provide space underneath for components and speaker?
You need a little bit of carpentry talent but not much, and it can be out of the inexpensive type pressed-board stuff that you can just paint black. You have to have either a bottom platform too, or a back slat to keep the sides from tilting and wobbling. Cushion the bottom somehow to avoid scratching the dresser top, like cut pieces of rag and glued on, etc, and that's it. Then the sock drawer can be happy again placed where it should be rather than sitting on a coffee table or whatever. |

Of course you have the room, just look. It's only a wooden box platform a little smaller than the size of your dresser top, and maybe between 8 to 10 inches tall. It's not going to put your set up against the ceiling. It gives you a place for components too. Or just mount the center speaker above.
If you're not adept at carpentry and don't have tools, all fine, you make do with what you have. Of course, if you really do like the look, that's okay. Enjoy it now while single because it won't be like that if you're ever not single. |

Congrats
Samsung's sure do look sleek. The screen barely has any space within the edges. Forgot about that.

Here's an idea. Look for a tall, relatively thin, blown speaker with wood cabinet for sale cheap at yard sale or thrift store. Make sure it is as tall as your set is wide, and also about the same depth or so.
Take off the front cover, speakers and the front wooden platform. Turn it on it's side and you then have yourself a sturdy TV platform with components and speaker area. Glue old cloth on bottom or use those stick-on green velvet circles to protect the dresser. Cut access openings and paint as you see fit. Just as funky as a missing drawer. |

Well, he is from Arkansas, folks, so that would explain why he likes the look.

You know, George, you really could do alot with that dresser. I'm dead serious. Take all the drawers out. Buy those slim plastic containers they sell to place your winter/summer clothes into that slide under your bed or couch for that matter. You could then place speakers and components inside the dresser. Cut the drawer dividers out as neede but just make sure the vertical supports are left as is.
Seriously dude! It's a thought at the very least. ![]() |

That old dresser...
Turn the dresser into your component cabinet, cool idea. And just put your clothes in a thrift store cheapo 4 drawer file cabinet in your closet, like the kind that was used in an old school or gov't office. It works, and everything is easy to find, and it has those neat rolling drawers that won't tilt downward.
Or why not do something nobody has ever thought of, like turning your old dresser into a bathroom sink cabinet. Oh wait, I think I saw that on a hundred home fixup shows. Actually, I have found the best cabinet to make a component case is an old non-working rear projection TV wood cabinet with doors, where you can take out the TV parts and put in shelves, and then you've got a cabinet on wheels with doors, and easy access front or back. If you don't mind that style that is. If your only component is a DVD player, then that might be overkill. |
