DVDFile Home Theater Awards: Rules and Info

We will be holding our first ever Home Theater awards. The winner will earn the distinction of having their theater chosen by the masses, as well as a nifty custom title that will be the envy of all.

The categories will be:

Projection System Home Theaters
• Best Overall
The HT that you think best represents the category. It simply stands above the rest.
• Best Seating
Which HT has the best seating (comfort, arrangement, style, etc.)?
• Best Design
Which HT has the best design, layout or feng shui?
• Best Décor
Some have popcorn makers, some have wall-to-wall movie posters. But which HT has the best décor?

HDTV (50” and above) Home Theaters
• Best Overall
• Best Seating
• Best Design
• Best Décor

HDTV (50” and below) Home Theaters
• Best Overall
• Best Seating
• Best Design
• Best Décor

SDTV Home Theaters
• Best Overall
• Best Seating
• Best Design
• Best Décor

If you wish to enter and have your theater considered for nomination, please read the following rules:

Entry Rules:
1. Send me a PM with a link to your home theater thread if you wish to be considered. In the subject of the PM please add your user name as well as what category your HT falls under (e.g., Piratehunter: Projection HT).

2. Your HT specs must be up-to-date.

3. Your HT pictures must be up-to-date.

The nominations period will close on 9/30/07. Voting will begin shortly after.

Good luck!

So can I nominate my Outdoor Theater? Not sure how that would fit into all this but given the lackluster responses, I think I'm probably a shoe-in for that new all expense paid date with little miss Portman!

Ha! Rumour has it you non particpating HT geeks is that 'prizes' will also be awarded, not just a title. But alas....you are all losers and by not particpating I will reap ALL the benifits! BWAW-HAW-HAW-HAW!!!!

Therefore, I nominate ME! PM sent PH.

My Outdoor Theater will DESTROY YOU ALL! MUAW-HAHAHA!!!

You have an outdoor theater? Cool.

However, mine is better. So there.

At least it's just you and I participating. I don't mind sharing the fame. Everyone else can be losers for not joining the fun...it's cool by me!!!!

you're right, if there are no entries, we might be able to win this thing. I don't put mine far up on the list, but no participants, I quickly
move up

Only 5 PM's, c'mon on guys! Pirate is there anyway you can stretch that entry deadline a bit? Maybe now after reading this they might get an incentive to participate. We need more entries!

Sure, it has some overly-ornate touches that I don't much like, but other than that that's a stellar theatre. Or am I missing something?

1. All of that awful gold and white trim will dance when the light from the projector hits, distracting the eye.

2. Those pillars make it feel (and look) cramped and claustrophobic.

3. If you’re going to spend all that money to make it look like Marie Antoinette’s bathroom, why not get a constant height screen to make it a real cinematic experience?

I see this all the time. They spend so much money on the design, but not enough on the purpose of the room. I do like the seats, though.

I already extended it by a week and then after that ends, everyone has two weeks to spruce up their HT thread. How much more time do we need?

#1 is a really good point, and #3 does have some merit, even if it's a purely personal choice. #2 though is just a matter of taste, just like the ornateness of the design, and won't impact the viewing experience.

And yeah, I would have made some different choices myself, but overall I'd rather have that than many other home theaters I see around the net where people basically throw up a big TV and call it a day.

At this time, we don’t even have enough entries to fill out each category. If I don’t get some more PMs soon, we’re going to have to cancel. If you’re worried about time, I’d be more than happy to extend the deadline.

I just sent a PM, but I think a lot of people know who have real quality theaters here and who's are just okay and who's are still using a 20" TV. For someone like myself, there isn't much of a point. Thats probably why there is so little involvement. Hell. A lot people are just using their living rooms. What percentage are luck enough to have that dedicated room? Sorry for being a party pooper.

I know that someday I'll have a GREAT theatre room. Right now I live in a four-square house that has all open walls and windows everywhere. So the TV sits in a cramped corner with a 55" Philips DLP and a Polk 5.1 surround which just doesn't quite work because of all the angles. Nice big leather chairs and couches for everyone, too.

Next time I move, a theater room is a necessity. Until then, I can't win the 50+ catagory.

Edit: Maybe I'll submit my gf's dad's setup. I helped him buy everything, and it's all upgrades of what I have - except the TV which is a Sony.

Hmmm... Perhaps I'll submit ours for the SDTV catagory, but if it's the only one, that's no fun! I need to update my thread though, since the current pics were taken right after new paint and all new furniture. Seating, acoustics, and all that are actually quite good for a living room. The video side is lacking, but I have the audio side pretty well covered, and is ready for a dedicated room.

Since we have so few entries, I’m going to skip the specific categories and just do a general poll for each HT type. That is unless anyone has an objection to that.

Also, if you don't have your pics up-to-date, get them up soon!

While the specific categories would have been nice, since there are so few entries, doing a general poll seems fine.

It's too bad that we didn't have a lot more entries, but I am glad for the ones that we do have. For the ones that did submit their amazing home theaters, we thank you! Great setups with some great photos. And thanks to pirate for making this possible.

Pretty sad not more folks contributed. For all the killer setups here, and I mean each and every one, you guys dissapoint. Were you all 'afraid'? Were you all just 'lazy'? Were you all simply 'Meh, I want something?'?
