The Plissken Home Theater 2.5 has arrived!

Well we moved into a rent house, got rid of the CRT projector and the measley 120in screen. I should have gotten the JVC RS1 projector, but as fate has it, funding fell through and I'm now with a damn fine temporary projector, the Sony VPL-AW15, plus a massive 147in high power screen. I'm enjoying the clearest brightest image ever. Also the house doesn't have an antenna on it, and since the house is 18 miles from the broadcast stations, I'm using an indoor antenna, gets a perfect stable image for local channels. The rest of the gang is all here too:

Video:
Sony Bravia VPL-AW15
Toshiba HD-A1 HD-DVD player
Sony Playstation 3
HD Tivo
Xbox 360

Audio:
Klipsch RF-7 mains
Klipsch RS-7 surrounds
Klipsch RC-7 center
Pinnacle AC-650 rear surrounds
SVS PB12+

My poor DVDs do not yet have a shelf. Unfortuantly the one I built before, i built inside the HT room and it was 10ft wide by 7ft tall, it couldn't be removed, so we need to build a new one, it's next in the list. And it'll be in the outer lobby, so less clutter in the HT room itself.

The neat thing about this house, have a little outer lobby area!

Double door DD entrance.

A view from the screen. Only using a 6ft HDMI cable to the projector from the receiver!!

The AV rack, it was fun stuffing all the wires back there, HDMI is making it much easier though.

My new, albiet temporary friend.

The old now playing plaque that everyone loves, it doesn't look as tiny as this makes it look lol.

Wouldn't be the Plissken home theater without these.

Screen and speakers without grills. Funny, the screen goes from the center channel to the very top of the ceiling, bigger than I anticipated. Also thats back material on the walls, can't paint(rent house).

With grills.

And now the obligitory screen shot that means basically nothing. This image doesn't represent the brightness or sharpness I get in real world.

Since I'm now in a more normal shaped room(15x22), the accoustics are notably better as well. A fine temporary theater, superior to my old one in many ways. I'm planning to add a few more decorations to the room, plus something decorative to go under the projector shelf, masking the wires. And there ya have it.

EDIT: Here is the latest addition to the room, I probably shouldn't have sprung for him, but he's just so cool! Forgive the poor PQ, they were taken with a crappy camera phone. My digital camera went missing mysteriously.

How close are you to the screen now?

TY guys . I think we're about 12ft from the screen.

The HT room I build won't be so dark, it's nice to be able to see when you turn the lights on. It was dim in the old room with two 250 watt bulbs in those pole lamps, here it's blindingly bright with 100w bulbs undimmed! Naturally their still on remote dimmers.

Nice HT!! I do miss the painted walls, but the screen looks great. How long will you be living in the rent house?

One to two years. The plan is to pay down a lot of our debt before we buy land, and then take our time building the house so it's done right. I'm betting 2 years here.

Wow. Nice setup. Love the bigger screen. Speakers still look pretty.

Sidenote: Is your 360 sitting on a player and is that its power supply right next to it on the same player. Better be careful or it will melt right through

Ah yes, it's sitting on top of the Oppo DVD player(I still use it for region free PAL movies and Divx discs). I don't like the power supply so close to the 360, but there's no other place, so far so good anyway.

Good looking setup you have there. I am thinking of asking the GF if I can move the entertainment center to the rec room, and put in a 1080p Projector and 108" screen. Dunno how that will work with the windows we have tho...

Yeah, that will go over REAL well I have thought of putting up 100% sun blocking shades. That way, when we are not watching a movie, we can opent them up for light in the living room.

I won't tell her if you don't tell mine

Pliss...

Have you seen the new JVC?

new projector is a big boy inside and out. Let’s cut to the chase: the company is boasting the DLA-HD100’s 30,000:1 ratio. That’s not a typo. Wow wee.
Pricing is expected to be under $8K

... So THATS why fate stopped me from getting the RS-1(I wouldn't have considered it if I'd just shelled out 5k for the RS-1). Well, I'll just have to save a little more, cause that fucker is mine!

Yeah, that is kinda slick

I'm thinking of moving our setup to the family room, and putting up a projo inour living room. Guess that means I have save up some cash ( unless I get this new job )

Ordered the JVC RS1!!! Got it for $3350 used , it will arrive Friday via Fedex(can't hardly stop myself from refreshing the tracking page every 5 minutes)... I'm as happy as a little girl!! Downside is I've mentally barred myself from watching any kickass HD movies till I have it lol.

Thats a $2200 Visa bill, but so what!? I just recently read a thread on AVS where a guy compared the RS1 to his Sony G90 CRT projector(to which he has like 50k in video equipment hooked up), and found the RS1 to be almost as good, just slightly lacking in black level!

Expect new pics, including pics of the new shelves!

Congrats, Pliss! That JVC looks sweet! Can't wait to hear what you think.

The JVC is a bit much for my wallet, but I'm seriously considering the Panasonic PT-AE2000U for my nice PJ.

Ah yeah the Panny is a sweet projector. I very seriously considered it when my savings brought it into my price range, I forced myself to hold out for the RS1 by a hair.

PICS!!!

Grats on the RS1. Every issue of late from Widescreen Review ALWAYS has a full page advert on the back of their mags. Looks sassy. 1080 on a 147in screen =
